21st March 2012 Roundup

1. Plenty of Dr Who news!

A lot of stuff has been announced for the new series. I think I should start with the most important, we have a new companion!

Above is Jenna-Louise Coleman, the new Doctor's companion! Announced at a press conference today, the actress who was been in Emmerdale, Waterloo Road and the upcoming series Titanic, will step into the role of companion this Christmas!

She is taking over from Karen Gillan (Amy) and Arthur Darvill (Rory) who will leave in episode 5. Showrunner, Steven Moffat revealed they will encounter The Weeping Angels in their last episode and not everyone makes it out alive (And he means it this time) -shakes fist angrily- MOFFAT!

Also announced was the plan for this series of Doctor Who. 6 episodes will be shown this year, most likely in the autumn. Another 8 will be shown in 2013, which is the 50th Anniversary of Dr Who, so expect huge celebrations. Moffat also said the 8 episodes for 2013, won't be the only episodes that year. Those are just the ones he's planned for so far. Moffat also said that he hasn't planned any 2 part stories for the next series and they will all be standalone episodes.

Wow, alot to digest there. So Amy and Rory are leaving us, but we knew that already! But will they leave alive so they can come back at some point? Or will one or both meet their maker at the hand of The Weeping Angels? Also what do we think about Jenna-Louise. I've seen her in action on Emmerdale and she was great! Very good actress, but we have to wait and see what she'll be like here. Will she be loved or will just face the wraith of the geeks? Time will tell.

Also I haven't mentioned Matt Smith who plays The Doctor in this post at all. He's still in the show! And he has no plans to leave. Hurray!

2. OMG. MORE 90'S COMEBACKS!

Yes. The rumours are true appaz! S Club 7 are reuniting for a tour and 2 new albums!

Eeeeah! How exciting man! The band have apparently secured a 7 figure deal to reunite later this year. The deal includes a tour to coincide with landmark events in the UK this summer including the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 Olympics and the possibility of a new album, as well as a Greatest Hits if all goes well.

This comes off the back of Steps reforming last year. They featured on a TV show which aired on Sky Living and their new Greatest Hits album went to Number 1, and their tour sold out within hours. I'm totes going to see them btw!

So will this reunion fair as well as Steps? I loved S Club just as much as Steps way back when. I love the sudden 90's comeback. It was bound to happen eventually! Who's excited? Reach for the stars if you are!

3. One Direction are doing rather well.

Who would have thought it? One Direction have scored a Number 1 album in America!

The former X Factor contestants topped the Billboard 200 chart with their debut album, Up All Night. They've made history by being the first UK boyband to top the charts with a debut album. The previous highest charting group from the UK was the Spice Girls back in 1997 with Spice.

The band, who recently won a Brit Award, said they are ecstatic about their success over the pond and it's a dream come true.

Congratulations to them all. Even the Irish one who does nothing. It's a great achievement and they should be very very proud!
